Even though he debuted as a 2PM member, nowadays Lee Junho is already indistinguishable from the title of an actor. He debuted in the movie ‘Cold Eyes’ and this time stars in ‘Twenty’; he only holds two roles but through those two movies you can already see Junho’s endless potential as an actor and he has already secured the position of “box office [hit] guarantee”. In ‘Twenty’, he and his same-age friends Woobin and Haneul together create a child-like atmosphere. Originally portrayed as a “beast-dol”, Junho also has a childish side. Before being interviewed he quickly and efficiently drank the banana milk that he himself brought. The Lee Junho like that was very novel [T/N: meaning ‘refreshingly new’ in this case].
Smiling, he shyly said: “this is my favorite banana milk.” After he said that, he addressed everyone with his cresent-shaped eyes; his countenance was a little different from ‘Twenty’ Dongwoo.
Q: Various websites have mentioned that when watching ‘Twenty’, they felt that the role Junho acted can’t be more different from the actual person. The man who successfully debuted at the age of 20 and reached the pinnacle of success [in real life] plays Dongwoo in the movie, a man who is full of dreams but because of reality/circumstances has to work hard and hold jobs to make them possible.
Junho: The sequence of the roles goes from Woobin to me to Haneul. Until now I still hear a lot of talk like that, wondering how the roles of Chiho (Woobin), me, and Gyungjae (haneul) will turn out but I maintain my feelings from before. Dongwoo is great. ‘Cold Eyes’ and the not yet released ‘Memories of the Sword’ are also like that. I have roles that I need to spend energy and effort on in order to garner the results and grow on my experiences. Furthermore the roles of Chiho and Gyungjae are a little bit separate from reality but from Dongwoo, you can see the most difficult and worrying aspects of being a twenty-year old youth. A role that elicits sympathy yet can also receive deep love.
Q: In ‘Twenty’ public released, its image made people laugh. Director Lee Byeonghun’s special affinity [for this movie genre] and the three friends who have starring roles; these points make the atmosphere of the movie clearly different from the norm. Junho said “the feeling’s like going to play” and laughs.
Junho: First of all, us three are the same age. During filming Woobin was Chiho, Haneul was also just Gyungjae. I was an impoverished youth like Dongwoo? Hahaha, very interesting right? It really was fun. The verbal exchanges between us were about trivial things like what brand of clothing is the best, whether there are any interesting recreation activities nearby, where are the good restaurants, etc. It’s so amazing how that brings us happiness. We keep on laughing for more than 30 minutes for the funniest things to the degree where filming can’t continue. After this we were told that if we laugh, we would be penalized 10,000 won.
Q: The action scene in SOSO restaurant in ‘Twenty’ is one that cannot be left out. The realistic Dongwoo was filmed perfectly in the SOSO restaurant scene.
Junho: Really, you can still see that scene on Korean TV now. It’s really great, hahaha. Afterwards with Woobin and Haneul we asked ‘is doing this okay?’ frequently. For that scene alone we filmed for 4 days, but because it was so funny we never felt tired even though it was work. When I was filming ‘Memories of the sword’ really, the gesture of my hand, the extent to which I kick my foot, I have to calculate every step. But in this ‘Twenty’ SOSO restaurant scene the director only told us to ‘fight it out’, hahaha. We acted until we heard the director say ‘cut’ and everyone sat on the floor and laughed it out before filming more, it really was impressive.
Q: Now more than being a member of 2PM, currently the title of ‘actor’ suits Lee Junho more. But to Junho 2PM is ‘family’; more than colleagues, they are brothers. Really in comparison to his actual family and friends, he spends more time with them. Like [Dongwoo] beginning with Chiho and Gyungjae in ‘Twenty’, the reality is that Junho’s ‘Twenty’ began with 2PM. It is as 2PM that he continues now.
Junho: After letting my members watch ‘Twenty’ I make them write a reflection piece to give me, hahaha! To me, they are definitely very important people. Because recently each of has too many schedules and other things to do it’s very difficult to meet up together and we also can’t comfortably drink together. To be honest, I don’t even drink (laughs). As 2PM, our activities are already packed to 2017. When the members meet we only talk about our albums, hahaha. We’re beyond intimate friends. The mutual understanding that you’re very important to each other – that kind of existence? To me, that is 2PM.
Q: If 2PM members were to have matching roles in ‘Twenty’, which members would you pick? Lee Junho ponders for a moment. Meanwhile in his hand he holds the banana milk that his manager gave before the interview. He sips some banana milk through the straw and blinks his eyes.
Junho: First of all, [I think] that Minjun is extremely similar to Chiho. Chiho’s romantic innocence? The person who has good interpersonal relationships and blends in well with the surroundings is definitely Minjun hyung. And then Gyungjae is Taecyeon? The Gyungjae who uses words and studies to communicate love is most similar to Taecyeon. All the 2PM members would probably agree, right? Hahaha. But if you look carefully, all 2PM members have the potential to become Chiho, hahaha.
